As a violinist interested in the creation and performance of new and experimental music, Emily regularly collaborates with composers and ensembles across Los Angeles, New York, and beyond. Select projects include:

tuning #3 (first position): I. Ascending

The 40 minute length of this piece makes tuning #3 an exercise in stamina for the soloist. Emily Call proved more than equal to the task.

Composed for her in 2016, Emily has performed John Eagle’s tuning #3 (first position): I. Ascending multiple times. She plans to record the piece in the near future.

[The music] was felt in the body, in the nerves and sinews, under the ribcage, and in the throat. All this from a remarkable string quartet that extended the syntactical and sonic range of their instruments.

The Planes of Your Location

Emily worked closely with NYC based composer Kitty Brazelton to develop and present a concert of Brazelton’s chamber music titled The Planes of Your Location. In addition to production work, Emily also premiered three pieces on the program including a piano trio and two string quartets. Plans for a recording are being developed.

Sonic Open Orchestra

Emily frequently performs with the Sonic Open Orchestra. Recent projects have included a recording of Gavin Bryars’ The Sinking of the Titanic and Nima Fakrhara’s soundtrack for The Night.

The effect is more ironic, more unnerving, more contemporary-sounding than the original, a fresh look at an evocative piece that can apparently thrive under varying interpretations.
